Menopausal and Hormone Therapy

“Long-lasting rejuvenation by hormone therapy”

"Hormone" is a type of chemicals in the body produced by endocrine glands and used for integration of functions of physical organs; when we get older, our body will produce hormones decreasingly and may cause hormonal insufficiency because endocrine glands will function decreasingly and result in abnormal functioning of our body.
“Anti-aging Medicine” is the modern medical technology that helps anti-aging by maintaining hormones at the level equal to those of age group of 20-30 years old. Significant hormones of the body are as follows:

Estrogen (female sex hormone)

Estrogen (female sex hormone) is the hormone that brings about rejuvenation, soft and tender skins, preparation of breasts for motherhood; helps prevent Alzheimer disease and stimulates breasts to produce milk and growth of adolescence, controls the production of cholesterol, prevents vascular obstruction, stimulates menstruation and embryo implantation, produces vaginal secretion and helps reduce Osteoporosis. In case, Estrogen decreases or becomes exhausted, the body will have symptoms opposite to all of those as above-mentioned;

Testosterone (male sex hormone)

Testosterone (male sex hormone) is the hormone that determines feelings and emotions of males, stimulates masculinity and sexual desire, production of sperms, pubic hair and body hair, muscles and bones; whereas, the brain will control the production of testosterone produced from testicles. Low testosterone or low sex hormone causes symptoms, as follows:

- Decreasing sexual desire;
- Erectile dysfunction;
- Low sperm volume;
- Bigger chest
- Sizes and strength of muscles decrease, changing emotions and smaller testicles;

“Erectile dysfunction (ED) is directly correlated to the decreasing level of hormones”
Women with testosterone will have body hair and more sexual desire; therefore, women in the pre-menopausal age will have the decreasing sexual desire; and doctors will provide testosterone (male sex hormone) for short periods of time to stimulate the sexual desire (if needed).

Growth Hormone

"Growth Hormone” is the hormone used for physical repairs and determining adolescence; after the age of 25, growth hormone will have no effects on the body; and the body will lose vitality according to the chronological age. Sleeping has significant effect on hormone secretion because during the period from midnight to 3 a.m., the body will secrete a large volume of growth hormone; and if we cannot sleep during this period of time, it will affect the physical repairs and subsequently causing illnesses.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) Hormone

“Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) Hormone” is the hormone produced from adrenal gland and controlling the production of 18 hormones in the body, including anti-stress hormone; it also helps reduce blood pressures and cumulative fats, enhances the strength of bones, controls weights, reduces allergies, and accelerates the remedy of wounds;

The body will start the production of DHEA before our birth; and the largest volume of DHEA will be produced at the age of 25 and will gradually decrease; and at the age of 65, the volume of DHEA will be equal to 20% of those of 20-year-old adolescence.
When inside the body, DHEA hormone may be changed to male or female sex hormones and used as replacement of the missing sex hormones both in males and females of the menopause age or in those who need hormone supplements to recover the sexual arousal.
In males, DHEA hormone shall be used as an indicator of remaining powers of life; and when DHEA hormone is below the normal level, it will be risky to heart failure.

Thyroid

“Thyroid” is a significant controller of human metabolism and helps control the physical movements and concentration. If having a lot, it is called “hyperthyroid”; and if having few, it is called “hypothyroid”, causing laziness, boredom and unwillingness to work because the body has few energy; and when we get older, we tend to have “hypothyroid” because the performance efficiency of all endocrine glands decreases, and so does Thyroid.

Causes of hormone imbalance:

  • - Hormone changes during the age of adolescence or pre-menopausal age;

  • - Diabetes, abnormality of Thyroid gland or pituitary gland or other abnormalities;

  • - Overweight;

  • - Stress

  • - Over-exercise;

  • - Eating disorder such as Anorexia Nervosa, etc.

Menopause:

“Menopause” is caused by hormone imbalance. Women aged between 30-50 years old may have menopause because the ovary inconsistently produces fewer hormones; and the average menopausal age is 51 years old; meanwhile, smokers will reach their menopausal age sooner than non-smokers; and women who cut off the ovary may have menopause immediately after the ovary cutoff.

When the level of estrogen and testosterone hormones decreases, various symptoms may occur (depending on individuals), including:

- Abnormal menstruation;
- Have a temperature, particularly the upper part of the body, with rashes on cheeks, neck and back, followed by sweats and trembling in the nighttime; the symptom will occur for approximately 1-5 minute(s);
- Problems relating to vagina and bladder due to the decrease of estrogen and resulting in drying and thinner vaginal mucosa; in some cases, it is painful during the sexual intercourses; and there are more frequent vaginal infections and urinary incontinence (stress incontinence);
- Birth control; birth control should be provided at least 1 year after the last menstruation; in some cases, their sexual desire may decrease; but in other cases, their sexual desire may increase;
- Sleeping problems such as insomnia, early morning awakening or difficulty maintaining sleep, and excessive sweating;
- Emotional fluctuations and immediate anger;
- Appearance changes; larger waist sizes, bigger belly, less muscles and more fats, and skin wrinkles;
- Other problems such as headaches, short memory, pains and aches etc.;

People of menopausal age may have various diseases such as heart disease, osteoporosis, breast cancer, etc.; simple practices for those who do not have severe symptoms include proper adjustments of health-related behaviors by eating high-calcium foods, reducing flour-based foods, avoiding high-fat foods, increasing high-fiber foods, quitting smoking and drinking, controlling body weights, drinking a lot of water, taking enough rests, exercising for at least 3 times a week (20-30 minutes each), avoiding health-risky behaviors, having annual physical checkups and pelvic examination such as annual checkup of cervical cancer and breast checkup as per the doctor’s advice;

For those who have severe symptoms, medication or hormone replacement therapy is recommended under physician’s close attentions.
